More for you and your child:

What can I do?

Some books you might
read together

Some things you might
do together

Why this is important

Look at information for:

  • infants & reading

  • toddlers & reading

  • preschoolers & reading

  • children who can read
    with some help

  • children who read
    independently

  • SOME THINGS YOU MIGHT DO TOGETHER

  • Tell stories to your child. They may not understand all the words. But they will love the attention.

  • As you go about your day, make sure to point out objects around you and name them. Tell your baby things like: "This is a door" or "Here's your favorite toy." You can also describe what you are doing or going to do.

  • As you read, follow the words on the page with your finger. This shows your baby that people read in a pattern . . . from left to right and from top to bottom.
