In My Own Words

Do you want your child to like reading? If so, there's an easy recipe to follow: read aloud together. Set aside a regular time for sharing stories with your child, whether it's at bedtime, in the morning before the bus comes, or at some other point during the day.

Think you don't have the time? Even ten minutes will do. So take a moment to read together. It could be the best part of the day for your child-and for you!

Hint: You can use many of these same ideas when you watch TV or a movie with children. Whether you're co-reading or co-viewing, the most important thing is to help your children make sense of what they have learned.
