Mr. Unger joined Maryland Public Television in 1997. He brings to
his present position an extensive background in executive management
roles in the financial services industry. Prior to joining MPT, he
provided management and marketing services through his own companies.
From 1984-95, Mr. Unger was a member of executive management at Baltimore
Bancorp and its subsidiary, The Bank of Baltimore. In his final position
there, he was executive vice president of both entities with responsibility
for all consumer-related activities including the branch system, retail
lending, bankcard and investment services as well as bankwide marketing
and lending. He managed over $600 million in loans, 565 employees,
and $1.75 billion in deposits. Earlier, he headed consumer lending
and bank subsidiary Atlantic Leasing and Financial Inc.
Mr. Unger gained much of his experience in commercial leasing at
Maryland National Leasing Corporation, an affiliate of the former
Maryland National Corporation. At various times he served as vice
president, senior vice president, and executive vice president. In
the last position, he managed the areas of marketing, operations,
accounting, and vendor business and was a member of both the management
and credit committees. After he left Maryland National, he spent a
year as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Capital
Sources Inc.
Mr. Ungerıs first career position was as an assistant vice president
at Commercial Credit Capital Corporation/CC Leasing Corporation, where
he was hired in 1969. He holds a bachelor of science degree in finance
from the University of Baltimore and completed the Stonier Graduate
School of Banking. He also served for six years in the United States
Coast Guard Reserve.
He is currently chairman of Towson Universityıs College of Extended
Programs Partnership Board. Mr. Unger has also served on the boards
of Internet Inc., parent of the MOST network of automated teller machines,
and the Maryland Higher Education Loan Corporation. He is a current
member of the board of the Jewish National Fund. He resides with his
wife in Owings Mills, Maryland, and is father of three children.
