Exploring Mars

Nasa's Phoenix project has stirred up increased interest in space exploration and more specifically Mars exploration. The Jet Propulsion lab's landing module sent back dramatic photos of the red planet's northern polar region last week. Frank Seelos of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab talks to Jeff about what scientists hope to gain from Mars exploration. The lab launched its own Mars project, The Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars (CRISM) a few years back in an effort to trace evidence of water on the planet. The APL also assisted in helping the Phoenix team coordinate the landing sight for the project.
