Single-Sex Public Education
Single-sex classes that have long been the norm at some private schools are picking up steam in public schools in the Washington area and elsewhere. By next fall, about 500 public schools nationwide will offer single-sex classes, according to Dr. Leonard Sax of the National Association for Single Sex Education. Some school systems are giving the concept a try as a sort of low cost reform. Dr. Sax is the founder and executive director of the National Association for Single Sex Public Education. He is the author of two books on the subject: "Why Gender Matters: what parents and teachers need to know about the emerging science of sex differences" and "Boys Adrift: The five factors driving the growing epidemic of unmotivated boys."
