Getting ready to read
- Relax. You've got a zillion things to do and you'll spend most of the day rushing. Now's the time to set aside your worries and enjoy being with your child.
- Choose a book together-make sure it's something that interests your child.
- Pick a quiet, comfortable space with good light. You might want to use the same spot every time. It helps set the mood.
- Turn off the TV and other distractions.
- Read the title of the story and the author's name aloud. Look at the cover together. Ask: "What do you think this book is about?" Talk about your child's predictions.
