Can you make us faint? (Part 1)

The Chesapeake Collectibles team – appraisers, producers and even volunteers – has a lot of work to do before the show's annual taping weekend of Oct. 5 - 6. Everybody needs to avoid too much daydreaming.

But it's important you, the program's fans, know what's distracting us. Because it's all about what those of you registered to attend — plus those yet to seize the opportunity — will bring along for our shock and awe.

We're certain to be thrilled by all sorts of items, but if you've got more closets or long-neglected hideaways to search, keep in mind our experts' dreamiest imaginings. The link for the taping registration follows their list of wishes.

Kathleen Hamill, modern and contemporary art appraiser:"I really want to be that appraiser that has someone come up saying 'I found this at Goodwill' or 'This has been in our attic' and have it be a long lost painting by any artist, really. I would love the moment of telling them they actually have a masterpiece. Aside from that, I would faint if I saw a Frida Kahlo or an Alma Thomas!"

Dennis Harter, Asian Arts appraiser:“My item of choice would be a genuine piece of Imperial Chinese porcelain with the requisite six-character underglaze cobalt blue reign mark in a double circle. But, an alternative to that would be any Asian artifact that has an interesting/unusual story behind its acquisition in (a) family treasures collection that has been passed for a couple of generations.”

Genice Lee, generalist appraiser:With the introduction of breakdancing as an event in the Olympics, I would love to have someone bring in memorabilia pertaining to hip hop culture, vintage sneakers, posters announcing block parties with DJ Kool Herc, (and) photographs of dance battles.”

Frank Shaia, rugs and textiles appraiser:I have always dreamed of someone walking in with a rare Caucasian rug like a Kazak, Shirvan, or Leshgi. To be honest I would love to see anything nice from the turn of the 20th century.”

And we’ll also be honest on behalf of the entire Chesapeake Collectibles staff: We know it’s a longshot that you’ll bring us exactly what we’ve rhapsodized about. But we’re still going to arrive at the Season 12 taping with the hope of being knocked off our feet. See you then.

Ready to register for the taping event in October, with the bonus of getting an insider’s look at how TV production magic works? All the details, including the attendance process, are available HERE.  Act soon. The registration period ends on September 20!
