HBCU Week NOW: A Public Media Partnership is a dynamic initiative dedicated to honoring the rich legacy and cultural impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through compelling television and digital media. Spearheaded by Maryland Public Television (MPT), this platform serves as a premier destination for in-depth coverage of the nation’s 103 HBCUs, showcasing the achievements, stories, and contributions of students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

The initiative’s name reflects its core mission: why wait for the nationally recognized HBCU Week each September when you can access comprehensive, real-time HBCU-focused content NOW? Available on YouTube, HBCU Week NOW delivers an extensive library of on-demand programming, offering audiences immediate access to history, and inspiring narratives that shape the HBCU experience.

For the second consecutive year, CPB has announced grants to support the HBCU Week programming initiative led by Maryland Public Television (Current.org) 

CPB is providing support for HBCU Week programs over the next two years, including the production of 24 short films relating to historically Black colleges and universities. The shorts will be published on the HBCU Week NOW YouTube channel, which at the time of this article’s publishing has nearly 10,000 subscribers.

LOCAL USA, HBCU Week: Innovation explores how HBCU programs are changing and saving lives. Howard University, which has the only Division One swim program at an HBCU, is making history while teaching the Black community to swim for competition and for survival. Claflin University's SmartHOME, an intelligent home environment, connects a person's physical state to actions to identify, monitor, and help mitigate health risks, with the hope to combat healthcare disparities in minority communities. Presented in partnership with Maryland Public Television.
